Clute Wealth Management: Partner, Financial Planner

Hometown: Fort Covington, NY Age: 35 Education: B.A. Economics from St. Lawrence University

In a latitudinal comparison, Adam Robert has lived his entire life within one minute. His dedication is reflected in his career accomplishments, earning a partnership at Clute Wealth Management. He is a quintessential example of this region’s hope for our young people who grow up in our North Country region, experience top quality higher education at one of our outstanding institutions, find meaningful work with one of our dedicated employers, and make a beautiful future for themselves and their families.

How do you contribute to the culture of your company? In addition to sharing laughs about the challenges of parenting, playing golf or hockey, my goal as a team member is to contribute and listen to provide the best service for our clients.

What are you doing to make a difference in your community? I’ve spoken at Plattsburgh High School and SUNY Plattsburgh to help provide financial literacy education to students. I also recently became a Rotarian and I’ve enjoyed getting more involved with service projects in the Plattsburgh area.

What is the single most important characteristic for success? Self-reflection. You need to be able to take an honest look at yourself to figure out what your goals are and how you can improve.

What is your biggest professional success? Becoming a partner in my firm. I’m very honored that my partners who trained and educated me have enough confidence in my abilities to include me to help steer our firm’s future.

What important lesson have you learned in your career? Patience. All good things get better and all bad things sting less with time. Taking your time and making smart decisions tend to win against impulsive emotional actions.

What is your dream job? You’re looking at it – Financial Planner.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken? Making the leap to get the CFP® designation. I had less than a year to do the coursework and pass the exam before my youngest daughter was born. I needed to pass or else waste a lot of time/money and have to study and re-take the exam with a newborn at home.

What is something that no one would guess about you? I am a sci-fi and fantasy nerd. All mediums – movies, books, video games. I’m a big fan of Star Wars (not Trek).

Write a note to your younger self… Just follow your heart – in all things. Being honest and caring to others gets you a long way in life.

What can the North Country do to make this area more appealing to a younger generation? Opportunity for jobs in growing fields and continued support for small businesses. More organizations like ADKYP to help foster fellowship and community involvement.
