Amanda Prenoveau loves to see new faces at the events she organizes and when those new faces become returning ones, she knows she’s done her job well. As a child she dreamed of a career in event planning. After working in fashion design in New York City she moved back to the North Country and earned a degree in public relations, giving her the skills to excel in her current position at SUNY Plattsburgh. How does company culture impact you and what do you do to contribute to your company culture? Company culture impacts my mood, emotions and working relationships. I contribute to a positive environment with open communication for everyone to feel comfortable to voice their opinions and needs.

Tell us about your community involvement. For many years I was involved in increasing physical activity and healthy eating opportunities for our youth. Now, I work with the community to develop youth educational summer programs.

What would you do if you have three hours off from work and could not go home? I would likely head to my favorite spot by the lake. It offers a wonderful walking path and a space to relax and bring a bite to eat.

What attracts you to your peer group? My peer group is a dynamic and diverse group of people. Learning about what career and life paths they are taking and seeing their achievements is something I like to hear about and celebrate with them.

What strategies do you use to approach the d

ay? I like to align myself with a goal and then visualize what small steps I can take each day to achieve it.

What is something that no one would guess about you? I am more introverted than I let on when in work and public environments. I enjoy my recovery time at home.

What important lesson have you learned in your career? Always see the bigger picture. I have based my career moves on where I want to be, not where I was in life, even if that meant being a little uncomfortable for a while.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken? I’m not a risk taker, but when I was just starting my career, I left a full-time job that was not in a career field I wanted, to accept a part-time job that eventually provided many more opportunities for me in the field I aspired to.

ces) Understanding the history of the North Country and that our demographic is traditional by nature, but will ultimately be receptive to new ideas and positive changes.
