It took bravery to make a dramatic career shift from pharmacist to Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a manufacturing company. Alexandra “Alex” Jeffords Fessette did exactly that. Capitalizing on a family tradition committed to excellence, Alex brings her multi-faceted skills to be the next generation of Jeffords Steel & Engineering Company.
How do you contribute to the culture of your company? My parents worked hard to establish Jeffords Steel and to create a family-oriented environment. I strive to keep these same values, and I hope that when people think of Jeffords Steel, this comes to mind. I believe that company culture begins with leadership, and I always try to lead by example. Fostering a positive work environment, treating others with respect, being empathetic and transparent, and always coming to work with a smile are some of the ways I contribute to the culture at Jeffords Steel.
What are you doing to make a difference in your community? Every year I provide support to several organizations throughout our region on a personal level and through corporate donations and gifts.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken? Changing careers!
What is something that no one would guess about you? I can’t help but think of sharks whenever I get into a swimming pool!
Write a note to your younger self… Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams. Do what makes you happy and fulfills you and disregard what others may think of you. You only live once. Eat the cake, go on the vacation and take time to smell the roses!
What can the North Country can do to make this area more appealing to a younger generation? I would love to see more activities on the waterfront and more support for child care and healthy options for families.
